The father ran to the foreign land to retrieve his son and offer him an additional share of inheritance, right?
Unity is also misunderstood. Unity is not an objective. It is a result. Unity results from shared submission to Truth; truth does not result from unity. Unity and Truth go hand-in-hand, but Truth takes the lead. When unity in Truth is lacking, it seems the Vatican vampires are willing to abandon Truth in order to achieve what is a false unity because they have jettisoned eternal Truth. As T-Rad points out, this is reductive, whereas real Truth Is ever expansive into deeper and wider understanding of God’s will.
Some people think that only God’s forgiveness is mercy, and they actually look for God to offer it without condition. What is missed by this view is that God’s laws are mercy, otherwise we would have no light. God’s call to repentance is mercy, otherwise we would be left in the misery of our own sin. The grace Jesus won on the Cross that He shares with us to enable amendment of life is mercy because we can do nothing apart from Him.

The Saints of old understood one thing with absolute clarity: the only way a person got into Heaven was total surrender to God. And why not? Does it not make complete sense to abandon one’s own total lack of moral capability to avoid sin and complete absence of wisdom into the hands of the infinitely wise God for whom nothing is impossible and who loves us so much that He withholds nothing to save us from ourselves, even delivering up His own Son! Why would you want to be any other place than is His hands.
There is one place where I would disagree with terminology, and that’s to call In Unitate Fidei a car wreck. A car has validity in its purpose prior to a wreck. In Unitate Fidei is not a car wreck, it is a dumpster fire because it contains theological trash that deserves nothing except to be purified by burning to ash.

Protestants are converting because they are reading the early Church Fathers and councils like Trent. Once they have converted they start seeing that the Church they joined isn’t the Church they thought they joined.
That is my experience. There is a huge disconnect between what the EWTN and Catholic apologists say and parish DRE's say. There is disconnect between the Church Fathers and bishops favored by the Vatican say.

I have always thought that to be a true Catholic Christian is to walk a tight rope between Justice and Mercy. It is often stressful to try to determine which and how to apply each to a given situation. Whereas, it's easy to fall to one side or the other. Groups like Muslims in general and the Taliban in particular only apply their idea of justice with no mercy, cutting off hands and the like. On the other side, as noted in this post, mercy is applied with no justice; everyone goes to Heaven with no questions asked.
Ah yes, removing doctrine by replacing it with feelings. What could possibly go wrong? Well for one, it will lead all the blind adherents of the ape of the Church to hell, NOT to Heaven! But Bergoglio said no one is in hell, so why worry.

Their basic point when you get right down to it is, "Things may be a mess in the Church overall, but I don't worry too much about that because things are pretty good at my parish."
This attitude is especially rife among older Catholics catechized prior to V2, who felt obligated to "keep the faith" after V2 under the auspices of "obedience to Church authorities". They say they are deeply troubled by the antics of the post-Conciliar Church, but they cannot accept that the Conciliar Church is not the Catholic Church. They are "too old to fight", they say, and they "leave it to the Holy Spirit" go forgive actions and errors "made in good faith". And so, they console themselves by attending "reverent" NO masses (sic) at a parish with a "conservative" Conciliar priest, refusing to acknowledge that even THAT is not the Catholic Church they were raised in.
By the grace of God I hope never to give up the fight for the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, outside of which there is no salvation, no matter how old I am; but I suspect I will lose many friends long the way.

When you consider the Jewish leaders like Caiphas and the Pharisees and the average Jewish person on the streets trying to make a living, raise a family and such things aren’t so different. The guys in the fancy robes and funny hats want to maintain the status quo. They want to stay in power and keep their flock in line. And along comes Jesus, the Messiah. They know it. Nicodemus knew it but that power and pride thing…….? The solution? Kill the Truth. Their Armageddon was the destruction of Jerusalem.
But the early Christians who knew the Truth? When the Truth is right in front of you there’s no going back. Ridicule, being cancelled? No matter. On a personal note. Born 1947. Altar boy at age 6. Many good priests who were part of our family. College 1965 and that was it. Never set foot in a Catholic Church for 30 plus years. I taught Protestant Bible studies and one day my wife and I decided to go back to the Church. What a joke! What was going on? Try saying the Our Mother in place of the Our Father! Luckily we found FSSP church a mere 62 mile drive away. But that was HOME! And now we attend an ICKSP Oratory 7.4 miles from home.
I thank all those deceased priests and parents who prayed for us during our lost days.
