If true, I can’t wait to see how Trad Inc. and conservatives are going to wriggle out of this one. Surely Marshall will be “disappointed with the Holy Father”, Cardinal Burke will hem and haw, while Lambert will be most “perplexed”.
We, of course, will just be assured once again that the Synodal Church is indeed the Seat of Satan.
A brief but highly significant report published by Messa in Latino stated: “INCREDIBLE! We have learned from persistent and highly authoritative sources that the criminal trial underway in the Vatican against Father Marko Ivan Rupnik has concluded in his favor. “
If this report proves accurate, it will represent one of the gravest blows yet to the credibility of the unHoly See’s repeated assurances of “zero tolerance” for the sexual abuse of vulnerable adults and those under spiritual authority.
The implications extend far beyond the fate of a single priest, and touch the integrity of the Church’s disciplinary system, the confidence of the faithful, and the profound contradiction between the Vatican’s treatment of certain offenders and its treatment of Catholics whose principal “crime” has been unwavering attachment to Tradition.
Marko Ivan Rupnik is no ordinary cleric. A Slovenian Jesuit priest and internationally renowned artist, he became one of the most influential ecclesiastical figures of recent decades through his distinctive mosaics, which adorn churches, shrines, and Vatican buildings throughout the world. His artistic reputation opened doors to the highest circles of the Church, while allegations concerning his conduct accumulated over many years.
The accusations against Rupnik were exceptionally serious. Former religious sisters accused him of psychological manipulation, spiritual abuse, and sexual exploitation carried out under the guise of mystical theology and spiritual direction.
The accounts presented by numerous women displayed striking similarities, suggesting not isolated misunderstandings but a repeated pattern of abuse allegedly committed against persons who had entrusted themselves to him as spiritual daughters.
Public revelations surrounding the case exposed an extraordinary series of administrative failures. It became known that Rupnik had incurred excommunication after absolving in confession a woman with whom he had engaged in sexual acts, one of the gravest canonical crimes reserved to the Holy See.
Yet that excommunication was reportedly lifted within an exceptionally short period. Despite mounting allegations, his artistic commissions continued, and his prominence within Vatican circles appeared largely undiminished for years.
Only after intense international scrutiny did meaningful canonical proceedings begin. Even then, many observers questioned whether decisive action would ever be taken. Initial indications suggested that statutes of limitation would prevent prosecution. Those limitations were eventually waived by Pope Francis, creating the appearance that justice would finally be pursued without regard to status or influence.
If Messa in Latino has received accurate information that the Vatican tribunal has now ruled in Rupnik’s favor, the inevitable conclusion for many Catholics will be that the much-proclaimed policy of “zero tolerance” has become little more than a slogan.
The Church has repeatedly assured the faithful that no individual is above the law, regardless of rank or reputation. If one of the most notorious and internationally publicized abuse cases ends without conviction after years of disturbing allegations from multiple complainants, many Catholics will reasonably ask what practical meaning remains in those assurances. Never mind the cruel injustice towards the victims.
There is another equally angering dimension to this story.
Recently the Society of St. Pius X was declared schismatic and excommunicated , as well as their faithful who “adheres formally” to the Society. Whatever one’s canonical assessment of those events, and regardless of once views of the Society in general, there was never any suggestion that the Society’s clergy had been punished for crimes involving moral depravity.
Rather, they are punished because they are preserving the traditional priesthood, the traditional liturgy, and the traditional Catholic faith during a period of unprecedented crisis.
One need not ignore the canonical complexities surrounding the Society to observe the extraordinary contrast. Men devoted to celebrating the traditional Roman Rite and transmitting the perennial teaching of the Church are treated with merciless severity, while one of the Church’s most celebrated artists, accused by numerous women of grave spiritual and sexual abuse, appears, if these reports are confirmed, to have successfully emerged unscathed from the Vatican judicial process.
It must be emphasized that every accused person enjoys the right to due process and the presumption of innocence. A judicial acquittal, if confirmed, cannot simply be dismissed because it disappoints public expectations.
Nevertheless, the broader institutional questions remain. Why did it take so many years for the case to reach this stage? Why were previous disciplinary measures apparently so limited? Why did an individual surrounded by such serious allegations continue to enjoy prestige and influence for so long?
For many faithful Catholics, the Rupnik affair has already become symbolic of the wider state of the reprehensible Synodal Abomination. It represents a hierarchy that is more willing to marginalize defenders of Tradition than to act decisively against influential insiders.
If the Rupnik report is true, it will mean that fidelity to Catholic Tradition is a worse crime in the eyes of the satanic Synodal Church, than the string of heinous crimes Rupnik allegedly committed, most of an extremely serious sexual and spiritual nature.
