On Saturday, November 16th, in the Dominican-run parish of Santa María la Real in Seville, a moment of silent doctrinal perversion was unexpectedly confronted by a young Catholic unwilling to surrender the faith of his fathers.
(You can view a video of the incident here)
Juan Antonio Ortega, and his intervention—courageous, direct, and entirely rooted in the perennial teaching of the Church—is a striking example of what authentic love for Christ and souls demands in times of doctrinal confusion. The young Ortega showed exactly the courage that most of the Synodal brood of Vipers lack, and which more Catholic laymen and woman should exhibit.
The parish was hosting a liturgy promoted by Ichthys, a long-standing LGBT-affirming collective. These “welcoming” Eucharistic celebrations have been held for several years and are attended by individuals who openly embrace lifestyles contrary to the moral teaching of the Church, yet are assured of unconditional affirmation with no mention of repentance or conversion.
This is yet another example of the pandemic of dangerous distortions that currently plague the Church. A Mass framed not as a call to holiness, but as a celebration of sinful lifestyles.
It was into this setting that Ortega stepped forward, driven by zeal for Christ’s truth and the salvation of souls.
Facing the priest and the assembly, he declared with sorrowful clarity:
“You are a bunch of traitors. The first is you, who are welcoming this Mass, welcoming sin (...), not for their conversion, but so that they remain in sin.”
He reminded them that the Catechism of the Catholic Church explicitly teaches that “the practice of homosexuality” is sinful and cannot be approved.
With righteous indignation, he accused the priest responsible of betraying the Gospel:
“You are distorting the message of Christ, sold to the devil for 30 pieces of silver.”
Ortega also pointed to the glaring injustice committed by the parish only days prior: the refusal to celebrate a funeral Mass requested in memory of the fallen Catholics who suffered and died at the hands of communist terror in Spain—many of whom are regarded as martyrs by the faithful.
He reproached the priest directly:
They were “rejecting a funeral service for victims of terrorism and hate,”
while at the same time allowing a public affirmation of sin in the very house of God.
In a video later shared on social media, Juan Antonio identified himself as a member of Orate, an organization dedicated to defending and promoting the Catholic identity and tradition of Spain through public witness.
With evident sadness for the current state of the Church, he added:
“It saddens us that ministers of God welcome sin.”
He further condemned the decision to permit the LGBT-focused liturgy while refusing a Mass for those who “gave their lives for God and for Spain,” insisting that these martyrs’ sacrifices made it possible for today’s priests and bishops even to exist.
Following the incident, Orate submitted two formal letters to the Vatican. One addressed to the Dicastery for Divine Worship, decrying what they described as a “liturgical abuse”—the implicit suggestion that God approves or tolerates behavior the Church has always recognized as morally disordered. Another protesting the “unjustified refusal” of the parish to celebrate the Mass for the fallen Catholics of Spain.
Whether Rome will respond remains uncertain. But the clarity of one young man’s voice has already resonated with Catholics across Spain and the world who long for fidelity and courage among their clergy.
In an age when many feel abandoned by shepherds who seek worldly approval rather than the salvation of souls, Juan Antonio Ortega’s bold witness stands as a reminder that Christ’s Truth still inspires the hearts of the faithful.
His words were not spoken out of hatred but out of a profound love—
love for Christ,
love for the Church,
and love for sinners whom he desires to see reconciled with God, not confirmed in error.
May more Catholics find the courage to defend the faith with the same conviction, humility, and willingness to suffer misunderstanding for the sake of Christ.
