Turning to Traditional Catholicism is not an act of rebellion for me either, but one of preservation and a desire to worship God as He intended, and not according to man’s perversions.
I must confess that I've previously adopted the mindset of "if I follow the Church's teachings, it's not my concern if the leaders stray." However, recently I've begun to take a more proactive approach by expressing my concerns through the appropriate channels and voting with my feet, so to speak.
Interesting article. Although regarding what you said about "sedevacantism" on the basis if fear of being wrong: the following might help shed some light in that issue.
Once of the problems with Orthodoxy is its a-historical conception of "Western Orthodoxy". What does a Western Catholic do when the only option is to join a made up Church? There is no Western Orthodoxy. There is only the Apostolic Church of the West (which the Orthodox know exists, and has always existed): Catholicism. Otherwise, become a Greek and join the Greeks, Russian and join the Russians, Chaldeans, Copts etc. I can only say: stay, hang on, and find a Traditional Community with, warts and all.
Excellent article by a local (to me) Benedictine monk.

In addition, "fear of being wrong" might also be enough to keep people in the Novus Ordo system!
Should also add for clarity that "sedevacantism" is a theological conclusion, not a group, and is held by Catholics in the groups you mentioned.

What about the papal bull “Cum Ex Apostolatus Officio?”
