Upon examination, it seems that the modern institution, while still using the venerable name “Catholic,” has in fact abandoned the very substance of the faith as revealed in those fifteen marks.
What can an ordinary, faithful Catholic do? As an older person who has lived through the changes of the post-Vatican II Church, I see how our Church has embraced modernism and become a heretical institution. I pray for the Church always. But, how do we cope or awaken others to this danger?
We can only control what we can control by the grace of God. It is foolhardy to think we can reform the local modern parish as laymen through activism. Many try, but it is an exercise in futility. What we can do is to set an example by striving for holiness, encourage others toward tradition, keep our families out of non-traditional parishes (moving if necessary), refuse money for hireling bishops, and not fret about the state of the Ape Church. You shall know the Ape Church by its fruits: note the bishops suing the federal government for shutting down the gravy train for the ungodly trafficking of illegal aliens. The gates of hell shall not prevail against God's authentic Church.
Eric Sammons of Crisis has written persuasively about this. My own parents, now in their mid 80s have been complaining about their parish for decades. They write letters, talk to the priests, and things only get worse. I encourage them to move along but at their age...
I am of the opinion that the NOM created a schismatic church of a totally new religion.

Jeff, so true. I needed to hear the bit about "It is foolhardy to think...".
